Welcome to Our Salon, Fellow Bluestockings!
My name is Laura Durnell, and I am thrilled you have chosen to attend our salon. Here you will read essays on society and culture, literature and art through a feminist perspective. In addition, I share writing and creativity exercises along with literature (fiction, poetry, plays, creative non-fiction, film) reviews.
This is a gathering place for us bluestockings (smart, educated and literary women as well as smart, educated and literary guests from a variety of genders). Paying supporters have the opportunity to engage with your fellow bluestockings and me in my newsletter’s comments section and the chat section on Notes. All money for my paying supporters goes to fund my daughter’s post-high-school education.
Who Am I?
I am a published and nationally award-winning short fiction writer; I also compose non-fiction. My workhas appeared in The Huffington Post, Women’s Media Center, Fifth Wednesday Journal, Room, Inner Life, The Antigonish Review, JEF (Journal of Experimental Fiction), Another Chicago Magazine, The National Book Review, the Chicago Review, The Facts on File Companion to the American Novel, others.
For over 20 years, I have taught writing, English literature, and liberal arts seminars on Anne Sexton and women life narrative authors and poets at various higher education institutions in Chicago. I currently teach and tutor writing at Wilbur Wright College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago.
