Madonna Knew
Eleven Years Ago Madonna Released secretprojectrevolution. Like Cassandra, She Warned Us about the Hell to Come. And like Cassandra, Her Prophesy Wasn't Listened to or Taken Seriously.
Thank you to my newest paid supporters Leslie Moran, Mark Mansour, Qasim Rashid and Mike Hammer. I am grateful. All paid support goes toward my daughter's post-high-school education.
Even if you are not a Madonna fan, you need to read today’s post and watch the embedded videos.
During the European stretch of her MDNA Tour, Madonna saw and even received fascist and autocratic attacks. After her concert’s interlude that included a quick image of a swastika branded on Marine Le Pen’s forehead, the fascist LePen threatened to sue her if she did not remove the image.
This provoked followers of Le Pen’s fascist National Rally to boo her and throw items at and on her stage. Le Pen’s father Jean-Marie Le Pen who headed the fascist National Front recently died to cheers of Parisians in the street. His daughter rebranded the party as National Rally.
Being a true artist, Madonna recognized what was happening around her and why. She responded to both through her cinematic art. She directed the short film secretprojectrevolution with Stephen Klein as director of photography. The first video is her interview with VICE where she provides her film’s contextual background.
In the next video, Anderson Cooper interviews Madonna where she further explains her short film and its purpose.
Below is the film itself that I am sure more than one person may describe as “arty” and exclaim, “I don’t get it!” Here she uses narrative, dance, light, symbolism, metaphor, music from her film W./E. and audio to emphasize her point—that we all must be free to express ourselves and dissent from autocracy and fascism in our own ways; we must work as one because it can (and did) happen here.
But wait. There's more.
1.) Bust a move with me on Bluesky and Spoutible.
2.) Donate to The Carter Center.
3.) Paid supporters can leave a comment below. If you like what you read, please consider becoming a paid supporter. All paid support goes toward my daughter’s post-high-school education.
4.) I read Philip Roth’s The Plot Against America after his novel arrived in 2004 and watched the HBO limited series adaptation in 2020. I know the scene below from the HBO series, which people can watch on Max, will play out with a lot of family and friends who voted for the convicted felon and the adjudicated rapist once Hell’s swirling flames their vote unleashed incinerates the country, them, their friends and their family.
Indeed. Evelyn is a stupid person.
5.) Join Malcolm Nance’s American FAFO — Focused Action, Focused Objectives— opposition movement. Read about and implement his peaceful and creative plans for Inauguration Day rebellion. Among his proposed actions are playing “The Imperial March” on a kazoo then sharing a video or audio of you doing so on your favorite social media platform after the Inauguration.
5.) Listen to an inspiring and galvanizing unreleased Confessions on a Dance Floor song by Madonna.
I liked the book but loved the adaptation even more. Worth a rewatch. Thanks!
