With Muslim and civil rights organizations calling his I.C.E. detainment an “abduction,” Sami Hamadi, editor-in-chief of The International Interest, was detained by U.S. immigration officials Sunday. The political commentator and journalist arrived at San Francisco International Airport on his latest speaking tour to then travel to Florida.
Hamadi, a British national and Muslim, has been critical of the Israeli government, its genocide and Western nations’, specifically the United States, complicity in funding and sustaining the genocide. The Council on American-Islamic Relations stated in a press release:
Abducting a prominent British Muslim journalist and political commentator on a speaking tour in the United States because he dared to criticize the Israeli government’s genocide is a blatant affront to free speech.
Our attorneys and partners are working to address this injustice. We call on ICE to immediately account for and release Mr. Hamdi, whose only ‘crime’ is criticizing a foreign government that committed genocide.
Our nation must stop abducting critics of the Israeli government at the behest of unhinged Israel First bigots. This is an Israel First policy, not an America First policy, and it must end.
The “unhinged Israel First bigot” CAIR alludes to is the MAGA-Nazi loon Laura Loomer. Loomer has also harassed U.S. political commentators like Democratic strategist Mike Nellis, going as far as to threaten his son. Because of her threat to his minor child, he filed a Chicago police report against Loomer.
This Islamaphobe, xenophobe, racist, conspiracy theorist, sexist and hack journalist tagged the milquetoast and emasculated Secretary of State Marco Rubio about Hamadi on her Xitter account. She later thanked him on Xitter for Hamadi’s abduction.
Newsweek included a statement from Department of Homeland Security (D.H.S.) spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin who claimed Hamadi “undermine[s] American national security.” D.H.S. also revoked his legal visa. Newsweek’s Peter Aiken also mentions other international journalists and critics of Dump and his MAGA-Nazi Reich that D.H.S. has targeted, such as Mario Guervara.
Two weeks ago legacy and corporate news outlets such as CNN, The New York Times, ABC News, NBC News, CBS News and The Washington Post refused to sign the drunk Secretary of Defense’s loyalty statement to not publish information the inept warmonger has not approved.
“A controlled mass media” is number six on Dr. Lawrence Britt’s 14 signs of fascism. International, non-profit and independent media and journalists are vital to the U.S.’s free press. We need them because legacy corporate media has obeyed and continues to obey in advance to this corrupt, evil and demented man and his sycophants. Support for them is vital and necessary.
The Dump MAGA-Nazi Reich’s clutches around the First Amendment’s throat grow tighter. A week ago Dump said he called for an investigation of October’s No Kings Protest. Autumn Billings of Reason magazine addressed how I.C.E. is now surveilling protesters along with Latine immigrants and U.S. citizens.
The latest No Kings Protests on October 18 that even occurred in red states screams the United States will not tolerate the fear, invasions and threats of the MAGA-Nazi Reich. It’s scary at the moment, but unlike Germany’s Weimar Republic that lasted from 1919-1933, our own Republic has lasted for over two centuries. In theory, Americans will not quickly give up our free expression.
Yet will we keep up demonstrated on October 18 to maintain it along with our Constitutional democratic republic? The answer is that we must. To do so, we must stay aware and concerned when the First Amendment is even stripped from foreign journalists, artists and writers.
